In an appeal addressed to his party militants, Yahya Jammeh, former president of the Gambia and founder of the Alliance for Patriotic Reconciliation and Construction (APRC), called for reconciliation for the good of the party.A former president of the Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, has promised to return to the country and develop it again

“I promise to return to The Gambia by the grace of God and develop the country as I promised you during my time in office. Many people believe that I am not interested in returning, or that I am ignorant of the suffering of the Gambian people. My goal is to let you know that nothing could be further from the truth. I, Yahya Jammeh, am more suffering in my heart because of the suffering of the Gambian people.” he said.

While in exile in Equatorial Guinea, Jammeh has been aware of the suffering of children and women in the Gambia and has promised to resolve the issue when he returns. However, he did not give a specific date for his return.

“I am deeply saddened by the fact that more than fifty-one thousand Gambian primary school children dropped out in 2021. This is a tragedy for our country. I wanted to make Gambian women and children proud of themselves and be the envy of the world, but now they are suffering. It feels like we have gone back to the stone age. The children are not going to school, there is no security, there is no happiness, and prices are skyrocketing. I know that this is a test from Allah, and I am confident that we will overcome it. With the help of Allah, I will fulfill all the promises I made to the Gambian people.

“I want all of us to understand that unity is strength. As a party, we should be one family, regardless of tribe, religion, or any other consideration. We should work together, not against each other. We should forgive each other and work for the interests of the party and the Gambian nation.

I am appealing to all of you to forget the infighting and division. Let us reconcile and work together as one party with the sole aim of bringing rapid development, prosperity, and happiness to all Gambians, regardless of their political affiliation,” former president Yahya Jammeh said.

The Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) has split into two factions, with one group joining a coalition with President Barrow’s National People’s Party and the other group refusing to do so.
