The criminal chamber of the Dakar court sentenced Ousmane Sonko to two years in prison for youth corruption. He was acquitted of the offense of rape and threatened with death.

The criminal chamber also condemned Ousmane Sonko to pay 20 million CFA francs in damages to the civil party as well as a fine of 600,000 CFA francs.

Adji Sarr claimed, at the hearing, one billion 500 million CFA francs in damages. The party also asked the Criminal Chamber of Dakar to set the constraint by body to the maximum and to put Ousmane Sonko out of harm’s way.

The Pastef leader was tried in absentia for rape and death threats. He did not appear because he applied the rule of civil disobedience.

The public prosecutor had requested, during the trial, 10 years of criminal imprisonment against the leader of Pastef for the offense of rape. The prosecution had suggested to the chamber a reclassification of the facts as an offense of youth corruption. He asked for a 5-year prison sentence.

The case was tried in a special hearing on May 23. The trial went around the clock, lasting nearly 18 hours. Nearly 7 witnesses were questioned during this hearing. Among others, Sidi Ameth Mbaye, Doctor Alfousseyni Gaye, the gynecologist and obstetrician who consulted the complainant following the alleged rape. Doctor Gaye confirmed to the judge that he had taken sperm from Adji Sarr’s sex.
