The Gambian music industry has long been dominated by men but a new young artist has been making waves. Maryama Cham has won plaudits both at home and overseas not only for the sound of her music but also as a champion of causes such as gender equality and climate consciousness. Her powerful voice and poignant song writing have struck a chord with audiences across the region. FRANCE 24’s correspondents Sam Bradpiece, Mbaye Ndir and Mustapha Jallow visited The Gambia to find out why.
