SENEGAL: LAWYER CIRE CLEDOR DISCUSSES THE MAIN REASONS FOR THE SUSPENSION OF SONKO’S HUNGER STRIKE

The Senegalese opponent, detained since the end of July on various charges, suspended his hunger strike on September 2, which began more than a month ago. What caused him to go off his diet? Me Ciré Clédor, his lawyer, gives two reasons.

“There are millions of people in Senegal and around the world who are worried about their state of health. It is normal for him to be sensitive to this and at least to allow them to relieve themselves,” explained Me Ciré Clédor Ly, coordinator of Ousmane Sonko’s pool of lawyers.

“The second reason is that clinically his condition was on the verge of being irreversible with sequelae that could last his whole life. However, he was never in a mood, nor in a suicidal state. It was simply a militant act,” adds the black dress.

Did Ousmane Sonko set conditions to stop the hunger strike: “Today it is clear that if he started this strike with a militant act, the condition set is that he be released. And in our legislation and our legal system there are mechanisms that allow him to be released, right now as I speak to you he can be released without me being informed,” said the lawyer.
