The state law office must submit their briefs of argument in the current coup trial involving four (4) soldiers and a policeman, according to Justice Basiru V.P. Mahoney.

Following the submission of the papers, the attorneys for the prosecution and the defense will present their oral arguments, and a date for the judgment will be set.

Five (5) criminal accusations totaling two counts of treason, two counts of concealing treason, and one count of inciting mutiny are brought against the five (5) accused individuals. Lance Corporal Sanna Fadera, the suspected ringleader, Sergeant Gibril Darboe, Corporal Ebrima Sanno, and Sub-Inspector Fabakary Jawara, a police officer, are the people accused.

In order to continue the case’s proceedings, it was brought in on Friday, September 15; however, Senior State Counsel Lamin Jarju notified the court that the prosecution requested an extension of time in order to submit their written brief of arguments. It was now the prosecution’s time to submit its papers after the defense attorneys had already done so. Within the time allotted by the court, the prosecution was unable to submit the brief. They thus requested extra time so they could submit the brief.

Senior State Counsel Muhammad B. Sowe’s 12-paragraph affidavit, which was witnessed, was used to support the request for an extension of time. The State’s request for further time was not opposed by the Defense Attorneys.

The motion was granted, and Justice Mahoney ordered the prosecution to provide the brief no later than Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

The case was postponed to Thursday, September 21, 2023, to allow for the approval of the argumentative papers.
