The police prosecutors have revealed that they are facing difficulties in the transportation of detainees, namely from the Mile II Central Prison to the courts.

The individuals expressed their dissatisfaction with the insufficient number of cars, which they said resulted in the dismissal of countless court cases owing to frequent adjournments. A number of cases involving the ‘Inspector General of Police (IGP) versus…’ have been dismissed by the magistrate courts on account of the IGP’s inability to adequately facilitate the transportation of remand detainees to and from the courts.

According to several prosecutors, the recurrence of this phenomenon has led to a lack of customary dispensation of justice for crime victims.

The individuals expressed their strong recommendation to the Ministry of Interior and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to address the issue at hand in order to facilitate thorough legal proceedings and uphold the principles of justice. Additionally, they emphasized the need for the authorities to provide several cars to guarantee the consistent presence of remand detainees in court as required.

According to their statement, it is imperative that we acquire a means of transportation, since we are currently unable to afford the expenses associated with commuting to court or transporting detainees to court.

In the meantime, it was revealed by two top prosecuting officials that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has allocated two vehicles to facilitate the duties of the prosecutors. Specifically, one of the vans will be allocated to the Brikama Police Station, while the other will be assigned to the Bundung and Serekunda Police Stations.

Nevertheless, some individuals expressing their concerns to The Point expressed their perplexity over the ability of just two vehicles to adequately support or effectively cater to three stations.
