Tuesday, the Brikama Area Council (BAC) recommended the suspension of its director of finance, Alhagie Jeng, and dozens of others amid allegations of corruption, emphasizing that a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted.

Mr. Alhagie Jeng, Mr. Sulayman Jeng, Mr. Malick Jeng, Mr. Omar Saidykhan, Bai Sait Jeng, and Ebrima Jallow are among those recommended for suspension.

Mr. Alhagie Jeng is accused of employing or enrolling numerous members of his family on the council’s payroll without following proper procedures. According to the Council, the Establishment Committee did not certify their employment.

According to the Council, Mr. Sulayman Jeng was employed through nepotism, solely because of his father and he has also been implicated in the fraudulent accumulation of money by his sibling Bai Sait Jeng. The council also stated that Sulayman has not made any submissions for the months of September 2023, indicating that he has suppressed revenue for the month of September, resulting in late salary payments.

Mr. Malick Jeng was also allegedly employed in violation of the law. Despite being responsible for the collection of valued property, the Council disclosed that Malick only accounted for D6,000 on the 16th of August 2023 and D2,000.00 on the 24th.

On 7 June 2023, Mr. Omar Saidykhan was accused of withdrawing the following amounts from the Council’s Vista Account: D72,000.00; D63,000.00; D450,000.00; D450,000.00; D67,500.00; and on 8 June 2023, D125,000.00. He is also accused of withdrawing the following amounts from the GT Bank on 13 June: D 71,000.00 and D1,700,000.00; D1,000,000.00 on 15 June 2023. Council stated that these June 2023 withdrawals are all unexplainable.

Mr. Bai Sait Jeng allegedly joined the Council’s payroll without following the correct procedure. The Council stated that his issue was brought to their attention after he was reported for collecting license fees from the Council.

The council stated that it has already submitted a distinct report to the organization regarding Ebrima Jallow for allegedly publishing revenue invoices outside of the Council without the Procurement Department’s knowledge. According to them, this is a blatant violation of all protocols and regulations.

The Council also emphasized that Mr. Muhammed Ebrima Jallow is only on their payroll due to his father and is not a Council employee. The Council recommends that his name be immediately withdrawn from the payroll.
