Judge Ebrima Jaiteh of the High Court in Banjul has scheduled November 10, 2023, for the delivery of the verdict in the civil suit brought by Gambian comedian Alhajie Sisawo, also known as Alhajie Bora. Alhajie Bora is seeking D7 million in damages for the deliberate violation of his fundamental rights after being detained for more than the 72-hour constitutional limit.

Alhajie Bora also requested that the High Court rule that his confinement from October 4 to October 10 without being charged in a court of law was illegal, unconstitutional, and a violation of his basic rights as guaranteed by the 1997 Constitution.
Bora is also asking the court to issue an injunction prohibiting the Inspector General of Police from holding and arbitrarily arresting him without a valid reason.
Alhajie Bora’s attorney, Lamin S. Camara, told the court at Monday’s session that he had received the state’s affidavit and had, as a result, requested a strikeout from the court.
Nonetheless, the presiding court declined to throw down the state’s affidavit and granted Attorney Camara until November 1st to submit his client’s affidavit in response to the state’s oppositional affidavit.
Lawyer Camara was allowed one day to write a reply on questions of law, while the state had until November 8, 2023, to file their papers.
The case was postponed until November 10, 2023, in order to await a decision.
