The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) secretary general and party leader, Hon. Mamma Kandeh, has congratulated Joseph N. Boakai, the next president of Liberia. In the recently held 2023 Liberia presidential run-off election, Boakai became victorious.
In addition, I want to commend the Liberian people for holding a peaceful election and for turning out in big numbers to exercise their constitutional rights. Your behavior leading up to, during, and after the election is admirable and should be followed by everyone for a very transparent and peaceful election, he said.
“To the departing President Dr. George Manneh Weah, please accept my deepest thanks for allowing sanity to continue pouring down upon your nation by quietly accepting the judgment of the Liberian people. The electoral process that you have just finished is a cause for joy rather than rivalry. The people of Liberia have triumphed, and you have established a positive precedent by preserving democratic values and facilitating a seamless transfer of power. Your choice to accept the results of the election in a calm manner will live on in our memories. This is a major factor in the leadership problem that West Africa and other regions are now facing.
“With this decision, you will exit the oval office honorably and with a high head,” he said. You have made it possible for a new leadership to quietly assume over and carry on the job you began.
Mr. Kandeh continued by wishing President-elect Boakai well on his next endeavor and pleading with him, as the nation’s future vice president and president, to never forget that the people of Liberia would be the beneficiaries of his devotion, deeds, and choices.
He concluded, saying, “In the end, I hope you will work toward fulfilling your election promises in creating a nation founded on justice, peace, reconciliation, development, and dignity for every single Liberian.”
