The chairman of the Brikama Area Council (BAC), Yankuba Darboe, has accused the finance director Jeng and chief executive officer modou Jonga of giving him fraudulent financial statements from Supersonic Financial Institution and Reliance Financial Institution for the months of January through September of 2023.

In compliance with a June 22, 2023, Council Resolution, the CEO and Finance Director have begun presenting financial statements to Chairman Darboe’s office. Darboe asserts that the bank statements were found to be fraudulent, nonetheless. The financial institutions didn’t contact the council until after they approved resolutions on October 10, 2023, about Jeng, and October 31, 2023, addressing Jonga, disclosing that the bank statements that were submitted were falsified and counterfeit.
“My office received financial statements from Supersonic Financial Institution and Reliance Financial Institution for the months of January through September of 2023 from the CEO Jonga and Director of Finance Jeng. This complied with the June 22, 2023, Council Resolution. To our surprise, though, the account statements that the CEO and DF from those financial institutions gave us were fake. Only after we passed our resolutions on October 10, 2023, for Jeng, and October 31, 2023, for Jonga, did those institutions come to us and reveal that the bank statements they had given us had been forged and were not real,” the chairman stated.

According to Darboe, the reason for giving him fake bank records was because Jeng and Jonga had taken out loans totaling D5,716,492 from both organizations in order to pay staff members once in June 2023—a transaction that was completed without the Council’s consent.

“They seized D2,858,246.00, or D5,716,492, from each of those institutions. This was done in excess of what should have been necessary for such payment and without the council’s approval. Since we get a salary of no more than D2.6 million per month. It is still unclear why they took double that amount! However, the genuine statement from Reliance revealed that the loan amount was placed into our council’s reliance account on June 13, 2023, and that Jonga and Jeng withdrew the monies the next day, June 14, 2023.

According to Darboe, the Local Government Service Commission has received proof of these anomalies and will notify the public as a result. “We have ample reasons for saying CEO Jonga cannot sign for accounts,” he underlined.
