During a news conference, President Adama Barrow said that his administration is hoping to get a grant of at least $50 million to buy fishing boats as part of a fishing project.

According to him, the initiative would provide young people all the gear they need to go fishing.

He said that in order to provide women vendors with a place to sell their goods, he has sent top government officials to inquire about the market that has already been built in Brusubi Phase One.

Senior authorities are already examining that market since it is primarily designed with women in mind. In order to encourage the ladies to do business there, we will invite them, and I will be personally visiting the market,” he said.
In response to a query about his intentions for female sellers impacted by the country’s ongoing road clearance, the head of state of The Gambia made this statement.

He acknowledged the objections over the removal of merchants from roadside locations, but stressed that the populace must realize that laws must be obeyed and that they cannot rule the nation by doing as they like.

He said that most marketplaces have open unoccupied spots, but women are filling the roadsides because they are competing and believe they would attract more consumers if they sit outside the market.

The president said that the youth side of the initiative is anticipating a grant of at least $50 million, which will be used to buy fishing boats equipped with all the gear needed for young people to go fishing.

This time, he said, things would be different as the kids would be trained first, and once they are prepared to labor and assume responsibility, the boat and supplies would be given to them.

They will benefit from employment created for them, which will boost the economy. We can export and import foreign cash into the nation with this,” he said.

The president goes on to say that the government’s plan to send the young people to Saudi Arabia is official and that all legal requirements have been met. He also says that all contracts have been signed, the youth’s safety is assured, and their rights will be treated equally.

“Everything is assured, and every effort is being made by the government to safeguard its inhabitants. President Barrow emphasized that this is a formal, non-informal procedure.
