GAMBIA: BAC CHAIRMAN CONCERNED ABOUT RAMOU SABALLY’S BEHAVIOR IN BAC AFTER HER NPP DEFECTION

Chairman Yankuba Darboe has alluded to the fact that he continues to be cautious of Councilor Ramou Sabally’s future conduct and actions following his return to the NPP after abandoning the UDP last week.
Ms. Sabally, an outspoken grassroots politician, was nominated by the UDP-led BAC in August for the position of women’s representative councilor.

The Council has “no issues” with continuing to work with her, according to Chairman Darboe, who previously authorized her nomination. Furthermore, her defection will not affect her position there in a legal sense, he added.

However, he emphasized that they continue to be extremely cautious of her future actions.
“Our concerns do not lie in her defection per se, but rather in her subsequent behavior.” Last yesterday, Chairman Darboe stated to The Standard, “That is the question mark.”
He stated that the Council has been collaborating with two additional NPP councilors who maintain a councilor-appropriate demeanor.

“Our Council is extremely united.” Should she align herself with the NPP and exhibit the same demeanor as those elected under the NPP, we shall not harbor any objections towards her. “However, should she comport herself differently, she would not only encounter issues with the chairman, but the entire council as well,” the chairman said, referencing rumors that Ms. Sabally had already delivered “unfortunate declarations.

“The source from which she is obtaining those remarks is unknown to us.” Such as when she traveled to Barrow and declared, “Barrow owns the markets.” That is completely nonsensical, and we cannot tolerate it. Barrow does not own markets. “This Brikama market existed in this area long before the birth of Barrow,” he explained.
He acknowledged that Ms. Sabally is representing an interest group and stated that there will be no problems so long as she stays within her responsibilities.

Regarding her abandonment, Chairman Darboe expressed disappointment.
He stated, “As the UDP, we do not want any members to defect from our party.” “It does not make us happy.” In addition to this, she possesses a constitutionally protected freedom of association, which grants her the ability to form alliances with whoever she chooses.
