Internet access via mobile data (3G/4G) has just been suspended in Senegal.

Restriction of mobile Internet in Senegal was taken by the central authorities.

“It is not a question of a restriction of social networks (the lesser evil), but of a CUTOFF of the Internet for more than 98% of Sene

galese consumers”, confirmed on X, Mountaga Cissé, blogger-trainer in Digital Media Technologies-Media-Telecoms.

This restriction of the Internet would be linked to the demonstrations by the Senegalese opposition observed on Sunday in several localities of the country against the postponement of the 2024 presidential election initially scheduled for February 25.

Added to this is the fact that the opposition has called for a large gathering in front of the National Assembly to evaluate a crucial bill initiated by the Pds that aims to modify article 31 of the Constitution of Senegal to postpone the date of the presidential election, initially scheduled for February 25, 2024.

The latest restrictions on internet access in Senegal date back to the public demonstrations which followed the conviction of opponent Ousmane Sonko last June.
