Judicial sources informed us that in the wake of the establishment of the Special Criminal Division of the High Court on January 26th, this year, Chief Justice Hassan Jallow has appointed two judges to the court.
Justice Sidi K. Jobarteh and Justice Ebrima Jaiteh are the two.
In accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Government White Paper and the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), local trials of such cases will fall under the jurisdiction of the Special Criminal Division of the High Court. Furthermore, the division shall execute its authority over additional criminal cases that are typically within the high court’s jurisdiction, as well as those that the chief justice assigns to it.

It is anticipated that the creation of the division will enhance the overall administration of criminal cases, with a specific focus on TRRC cases.

In this regard, the Special Criminal Division will supplement other executive and legislative measures, according to an early-year statement from the Office of the Chief Justice.
