Reliable sources intimated that, Jerreh Jammeh, the Deputy Head of Mission of The Gambia to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, has been recalled.

According to reliable sources, the senior diplomat was removed from office due to the recent embezzlement of $5,000 that President Adama Barrow had donated to the Gambian Association in Mauritania.

“The President was notified that the funds he donated did not arrive, so he decided to look into it. A source in Mauritania revealed that President Barrow personally spoke with Jerreh Jammeh, who admitted to eating the money. As a result, the president chose to recall Jammeh. The news was further confirmed by an unnamed senior government official who told LamToro News that Mr. Jammeh has been recalled for embezzling funds that were granted to the Gambian Association by the president.

Readers may remember that on January 8, 2024, President Adama Barrow became the third president to win the African for Peace Promotion Award, a prestigious accolade. He received the award during his visit to Mauritania.

Here in Mauritania, the president had a meeting with Gambian community members during his visit.

Government should carefully screen diplomats before sending them on any foreign mission, following the recall of two additional high-ranking Gambian diplomats from the Gambian Embassy in Cuba.

Supposedly, ambassador Sheikh Tijan Hydara and his deputy, Vincent Mendy, got into an office brawl over Hydara’s and Mendy’s respective grudges with Cuba.

The United States removed three Gambian ambassadors in July 2023 for their roles in visa fraud.
