Manjai’s residents are getting quite worried about the ongoing problem of unstable electricity. They have struggled with an unstable power supply because of a malfunctioning transmitter for more than five years. There has been no resolution to the issue despite multiple reports to NAWEC.

Now that the community has made several attempts to communicate with NAWEC’s management, they are turning to the media to draw attention to their difficulties. They are pleading with NAWEC and the government to address the problem, claiming that repeated power outages have seriously damaged their homes.

Manjai local Asta Cham expressed her annoyance to the media:

We haven’t been happy in years, and we’re not happy today either. We, the Manjai community, are worn out. The lights go out every day at nine o’clock at night, and our TVs break. We fought and cast our votes for you to be our leader, President Barrow. We are worn out and unable to survive in a neighborhood without electricity and water, so please help the people of Manjai,” she uttered.

Another resident, Pa Malick Mbye, clarified that the problem has remained for a number of years:

Our problems with electricity have lasted for the last three years. Our transmitter, not NAWEC shutting off the power supply, is the primary issue. After talking with NAWEC, a number of community residents informed us that the transmitter is having issues and that the region is overpopulated. We lose power when the transmitter goes down, sometimes from 9 PM to 12 AM,” he stated.

“Everyone in the nation has access to electricity, but we don’t because of an issue with our transmitter,” Aji Kura Jobe continued. Despite our several complaints, nothing has been done. We, the Manjai community, are worn out. We’ve never had a steady supply of water, and our electricity isn’t steady either.

Gifty Chapman and other locals are calling on NAWEC and the government to address the issue:

“We are pleading with NAWEC and the administration to assist us and correct the issue. This is serious, and we are exhausted. We are here with children,” she begged.
