A critic of President Adama Barrow, Omar Boni Darboe, has expressed his dissatisfaction over the shrouding in secrecy of the names of those tasked to investigate the alleged coup plot.

On 27 December 2022, the Solicitor General administered an oath of secrecy to an 11-member panel to set the ball rolling for a 30-day investigation into the alleged coup plot.

According to the Gambia government spokesperson Ebrima G. Sankareh, the panelists have been drawn from the justice ministry, Office of the National Security (ONS), GAF, GPF and SIS.

Meanwhile, nominated councillor at the Brikama Area Council (BAC) also a staunch critic of President Barrow has called on the Gambia government to identify the personalities involved with the investigation.

“This will greatly help the citizens to gauge the credibility, impartiality, independence and the integrity of the panelists,” Darboe told JollofNews.

“It would not be out of place to make public names of all those tasked with the investigation. People need to know whether the panelists are people of calibre, timbre and mettle,” Darboe added.

“If we can be privileged to know the commissioners of the TRRC, why not alleged coup plot investigators? The crimes that TRRC was mandated to deal with were huge in nature and that notwithstanding,we knew the TRRC commissioners, ” he stated.
