Editor Mbai,
As the 4 December election approaches, tempers are fraying and gone are the politeness and niceties we saw in the Halifa Sallah – Dr Ceesay Debate a couple of months ago.
It seems to me that, on this ocassion, Halifa was annoyed because young Dr Ceesay would not give PDOIS pre-eminence as the long-established party and anoint Halifa as the presidential candidate of the Alliance For Change coalition.
WRITES HALIFA BELOW:-
“ … as new political parties they should declare that they not interested in putting up presidential candidates”.
- CEESAY’S BRUTAL RESPONSE:-
“Change your System before you call for System Change … If, for 35 years, you are not able to transform your party into a modern political organization, how can you transform The Gambia into a modern state in 5 years? We are on a mission to save the next generation from the failures of the past…”
ARICA IS A MESS BECAUSE THE EARLIER GENERATIONS FAILED!
Dr. Ceesay is right in that the older two previous generations of Africans have failed the continent – and who are we, those of the failed generations, to stand in front of the younger generation like Dr. Ceesay and Essa Faal who want to try a new approach.
To give just one example, Jomo Kenyatta became Kenya’s first president – and set out to rob the nation big-time. Today his son Uhuru is president – and still continuing to loot and hide it in the Bahamas (Pandora Papers). Meanwhile, the news this week is that two million Kenyans face starvation.
So really, if Dr. Ceesay and his generation want to try something new, who are we, the old failures, to stand in the way. Dr. Ceesay may succeed and if he doesn’t he can only fail – like us.
