GAMBIA: DEPUTY AMBASSADOR OF GAMBIA IN MAURITANIA ORDERED TO HAND OVER TO HON. SAIKOUBA JARJOU

Ambassador Sheikh Omar Faye wrote to Deputy Ambassador Jerreh Jammeh on April 23, 2024, requesting that he limit his actions at the Gambian Embassy in Mauritania. Kerr Fatou got the letter.

The letter stressed the necessity for a smooth handover to Saikouba Jarjou, the Gambia Embassy in Nouakchott’s new Deputy Head of Mission. By Friday, April 26, 2024, the handover should be complete. Ambassador Faye conveyed thanks to Jerreh Jammeh and his family for their service and warm wishes upon their homecoming.

“Further to the Notice of Recall referenced MEA/P/1004430(60-AEB) dated 2nd February 2024 and Recall Letter referenced MEA/P 1004430 (69) dated 23rd April 2024, I am urging you to wine down your activities at the Embassy and successfully handover to Saikouba Jarjou, now appointed Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Chancery of the Gambia Embassy in Mauritania.


Please hand over and transfer all Deputy Head of Mission office paperwork and keys to Saikouba Jarjou. Please note that handover is on Friday, April 26, 2024. My colleagues and I appreciate you for your service and wish you and your family a safe return home. Ambassador Faye wrote Deputy Jerreh Jammeh.

Kerr Fatou also received a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad to Deputy Ambassador Jerreh Jammeh. This April 23, 2024 letter ordered Jerreh Jammeh to return to Gambia by April 30, 2024. Jerreh Jammeh was ordered to return home via a February 2, 2024 recall letter (MEA P004430/(65-AEB)), according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The letter demanded Jerreh Jammeh’s dependents’ travel information to headquarters.

Please submit travel arrangements for your dependents to Headquarters by 30th April 2024, as per the Ministry’s letter MEA/P004430/(65-AEB) of 2nd February 2024, regarding your recall to home service. The Foreign Affairs Ministry requested Deputy Ambassador Jerreh Jammeh’s assistance.

Two letters were sent to Deputy Ambassador Jerreh Jammeh within 24 hours of Kerr Fatou’s publication regarding the Gambian Embassy’s instability in Mauritania.
An informant at the Gambian Embassy said Hon. Saikouba Jarjou, a former National Assembly Member for Busumbala Constituency, is working with Ambassador Sheikh Omar Faye (former Minister of Defence) to remove Jerreh Jammeh as Deputy Ambassador.

Prior to losing the 2022 Parliamentary Elections, His Excellency Adama Barrow named Hon. Saikouba Jarjou as First Secretary in the Gambian Embassy in Mauritania on August 22, 2022.

Our reporter found a recall letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad to Deputy Ambassador Jerreh Jammeh during the Gambian Embassy turmoil probe. This February 2, 2024 recall letter alerted Jerreh Jammeh of his recall from Mauritania for home service.

His message told him to finish his duties at the duty post and plan his return to Banjul. Jerreh Jammeh was also asked to quote airfare, family repatriation, and personal effects. The Ministry expressed their deepest appreciation for his service.

You will be recalled for home service from your position as Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Chancery at the Gambian Embassy in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania immediately. You should end your duties at your duty post promptly and return to Banjul.

“In the meantime, you must immediately provide Headquarters with three (3) quotations for air tickets for your return, your family’s repatriation, and your personal effects. The Hon. Minister and the entire staff of this Ministry congratulate you for your contribution to the state while on tour of duty and renew to your esteemed person. a promise of our greatest regard,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry wrote.
