Former Member of the National Assembly for the Niamina East Constituency, Honorable Omar Ceesay, has vehemently opposed the alleged coordination of drummers by Inspector General of Police Abdoulie Sanyang on behalf of Ramou Sabally, who recently defected from the opposition United Democratic Party to the president’s National Peoples Party.

Ceesay voiced his dissent regarding the IGP’s office’s participation in activities that entail supplying material and human resources to bolster a political figure for the purpose of gaining political advantage during a meeting with the president. His statement underscored the inappropriateness and unethicality of such engagement in political matters, which encompasses providing material or financial support to political figures or parties. Such conduct undermines the integrity and reputation of the institution.

“It is improper for the IGP office to provide assistance, facilitate, and mobilize human and material resources in order to accompany a political figure to a meeting with the president for the purpose of discussing political gain points.” The IGP has no authority to intervene in political matters or offer material or financial support to political parties or figures. “By any measure, an action of this kind ought to be regarded as unprofessional and unethical, as it threatens to tarnish the institution’s integrity and reputation,” Ceesay stated.

The former member of parliament stated that the IGP’s office ought to uphold impartiality by ensuring that all citizens are treated fairly and in accordance with the law; furthermore, it should abstain from engaging in political activities. Furthermore, Ceesay urged political parties and civil society organizations to condemn this alleged action with utmost severity.

Ramou Sabally asserted that Abdoulie Sanyang, the Inspector General of Police of Gambia, had arranged for drummers to accompany her to the president’s residence at State House.
