Sheriff Kinteh, the president of the Gambia Amputee Association (GAA) has refuted news of his association’s endorsement of the National People’s Party candidate for Brikama Area Council chairman, Seedy Ceesay.

“Our people went there but they said they were going for greetings because they are residents of the West Coast. We told them if they go there, they are not going in the name of the Gambia Amputee Association and we don’t want our name to be mentioned there. They told us they will not mention it. I later got the news that the Gambia Amputee Association endorsed Seedy Ceesay. That is why I came out to clear the air that GAA didn’t endorse Seedy Ceesay and we want people to know that. The person who went there lives on the West Coast Region. He and Seedy Ceesay know each other. He told us he was going to meet and greet him and he wanted to go with a few people. I told him if he goes let him not use the name of the Gambia Amputee Association. And that endorsement is not our Stand,” he told King FM Radio.

Mr. Kinteh said their association is a group that seeks help to assist their members and is not involved in politics;

“I want to tell all Gambians that Gambia Amputee Association is not involved in any politics. It is a group that seeks help because people in the association cannot do it all by themselves. We established this association to unify us, enable us to receive donations together, and help us in our fight against street begging. We want to use our donations to train our members to acquire skills, to complete their education, to help women do business, but we are not into politics,” he concluded.

News has emerged last week that the Gambia Amputee Association endorsed the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Seedy Ceesay in a ceremony that was held in Banjulinding.
