Yankuba Darboe, the Chairman of the Brikama Area Council (BAC), has asserted that the Gambia Police Force will be held accountable if any harm befalls Sheriffo Baiyo Sonko, the nominated councilor for Transport within the BAC.

“My Honourable brother Sheriffo Sonko or Sonko Gambia, a council member of Brikama Area Council, has not eaten or drunk anything for more than 24 hours! We will hold the leadership of the Gambia Police Force responsible for anything that happens to him!” the BAC Chairman said.

Sheriffo Baiyo Sonko, the nominated councilor for Transport at Brikama Area Council, has reportedly begun a hunger strike while in detention at Kanifing Police Station. Sonko was summoned for questioning on Friday afternoon and has been in custody since.

According to credible sources, Sonko has steadfastly declined any sustenance offered by the police and his family members. His intention is to abstain from food until he is released.
