The Anti-Corruption Bill was overwhelmingly approved by The Gambia’s National Assembly after its third reading by the Minister of Justice. This Act establishes a stronger legal framework to address corruption and economic crimes in the nation.

The legislation abolishes the obsolete Gambia Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2012 and creates a new commission with the authority to conduct investigations and bring legal action against individuals involved in corrupt activities. The legislation explicitly delineates and forbids a range of crimes connected to corruption, with corresponding penalties specified.

In addition to enforcement, the law also prioritizes prevention via educational and awareness campaigns. Furthermore, it offers tools for the retrieval of assets and the protection of whistleblowers, ensuring the safety of those who provide crucial information.
After the successful enactment of the Anti-Corruption Bill, the National Assembly has also given its approval to the Animal Health Bill, which is another significant legislative measure aimed at resolving issues within the agriculture industry.
