Senegal’s President Macky Sall dissolved members of the government by decree, according to a communique Friday.

Sall “terminated, by decree dated October 06, 2023, the functions of the ministers, members of the government,” said a statement from Secretary-General of the Presidency Oumar Samba Ba.

The president decided to set up a new government under the leadership of current Prime Minister Amadou Ba, it said.

“The composition of the new government will be published soon,” said Ba.

Ba is a candidate of the ruling Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) coalition for the 2024 presidential election.

Sall announced July 3 that he would not stand for a third term.
