In his birthplace of Mankamang Kunda on Saturday, Banjul City Council Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, together with the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, presented the President of the Republic of The Gambia with her honors.
The Global Parliament of Mayors presented Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe with the Dr. Benjamin Barber Global Cities Award earlier this month. With this award, mayors are honored for their exceptional contributions to inspiring local leadership and developing global urban government.

The Dr. Benjamin Barber Award, according to Mayor Lowe, is the greatest honor a mayor can get after giving the honors to the president.
We are here to deliver the Dr. Benjamin Barber award, which I got from the president of North Macedonia, as well as the honor I received from UN-Habitat. I am here to present the award in my capacities as a mayor and a Gambian. The Dr. Barber Prize is the greatest honor that a mayor can be given, the mayor said.

She congratulated the President and said that he was excited to receive the prize.

“The president’s response was the same as before because, as you are all aware, he came out to congratulate me in both his capacities as president and National People’s Party leader. That means a lot to me, and as you can see, he was extremely happy to receive the award and he congratulated me again,” she said.
The Mayor dedicated the award to the women and young of The Gambia, underscoring its importance for the City Council of Banjul. “They deserve this recognition,” she said, thanking her party, the people of The Gambia, and the people of Banjul for their votes.

“The award holds great significance for me, and upon receiving it, I dedicated it to the women and youth of the Gambia, as I believe they truly deserve it,” she said.

As required by the constitution, the President is now on his Meet the People trip.
