Justice Achibonga of the High Court of the Gambia has dismissed the application filed by Banjul Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe against Oreme Joiner and two others.

In March 2023, the Mayor of Banjul City Council (BCC), Rohey Malick Lowe, filed a civil lawsuit at the High Court of the Gambia in Banjul against Attorney General Dawda A. Jallow, Commissioners Samba Faal, Oreme E. Joiner, and Alhagie Sillah.

Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe is asking the High Court to rule that the appointment of three commissioners, Samba Faal, Oreme E. Joiner, and Alhagie Sillah, violates her right to a fair hearing. She alleges that the commissioners are members or sympathizers of the ruling NPP and the then-ruling APRC and that their appointment is therefore unfair to her.

In delivering his ruling on the application today, Justice Achibonga said there is no evidence suggesting that respondents Samba Faal, Oreme Joiner, and Alhagie Sillah are members of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).

“The Applicant’s application lacks merit and is hereby dismissed,” Justice Achibonga ruled.
