Honorable Halifa Sallah, the Secretary General of the PDOIS, announced at a press conference yesterday that the organization will conduct a nationwide tour from October 20th to October 31st, 2024.

He stated that the team will engage in a national conversation on the future of the country and the necessary steps to empower the Gambian people to take command of their country by meeting with members, leaders of the party within regions, and citizens.

The PDOIS Secretary General provided his perspective on the country’s progress during the press conference, which was conducted at the party headquarters.

He has recently returned from London, where he was invited to serve as the keynote speaker at the AGM of the PDOIS European Branch on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

He maintained the state of the economy and the constitution-building process as his political discourse during the press conference. He also addressed the media and current global affairs, with a particular emphasis on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Subsequent publications will contain the complete verbatim report of the press conference.

Halifa stated that the Gambia is unable to compete in the global economy due to its inability to import products. He stated that the reason is that it is not producing the necessary goods and services that it can export. He emphasized that the economy of this nation will only function if all economic sectors are productive.

He emphasized that the Constitution is a product of the people, and a republic is impossible without it. He asserted that the executive is limited to proposing, while the National Assembly has the authority to make decisions. Additionally, he addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Russia-Ukraine, and the absence of global leadership to resolve them. He stated that journalists are expected to report in the public interest and in good faith regarding the media. Nevertheless, if an assertion is made that is not supported by evidence, it should be refuted by providing the corresponding data.
