The Gambia Police Force has approved a permit for the Strive for Gambia Concern Citizens to hold a peaceful protest against the deportation of Gambians from the European Union. The protest will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., starting at Jimpex and ending 15 meters away from NAWEC Westfield in Kanifing.

The permit stipulated that the protest must remain peaceful and within the limits of the law.

“Be informed that permission has been granted to you to go ahead with your peaceful protest using the Public Address System slated for Saturday 22nd July 2023 commencing from Jimpex using the Kanifing PIU Barracks feeder road to within 15M away from NAWEC Westfield, Kanifing from 12:00hrs to 15:00hrs,” the police said.

The police gave the permit application the green light, but only with the following caveats:

“A) That the protest is confined to the time scheduled given in this approved permit.

“B) That the protest is confined within the limits of the law.

“C) That no derogatory words or remarks should be addressed to any person that will eventually result to the breach of the peace,” they said.

The police say failure to comply with these conditions will result in the revocation of this permit and or criminal prosecution.
