“Today marks another milestone for my government and a significant development in the annals of road communication in the Gambia. I am singularly honored, therefore, and greatly delighted to commission these 70 brand-new buses to ease transportation around the country. The busses come as a continuation of the project that started last year leading to the commissioning of 38 buses last July. To expand public transport services 59 of the new buses will be deployed for use as public transport while the remaining 11 will be utilized as school transport,” President Adama Barrow said.

Seedy Kanyi, the General Manager of the Gambia Transport service, stated in his welcoming remarks that the 70 New Buses is the largest addition to the GTSC fleet since it was established in 2013.

“This is the largest addition to our fleet since the inception of the company in 2013. In recent years GTSC has been engaging the Gambia government for the expansion of its fleet and financial support. And I stand here today to announce that these engagements have born positive results and the government has indeed responded to our request which culminated in today’s event. This new fleet is meant to upgrade public transport in the country in response to the high population growth rate and the resultant surge in demand for public transport. This is a timely intervention, especially in light of recent improvements in road infrastructure,” he said.
