Anger has been lodged by motorists at the Soma-Farafenni garage regarding the exorbitant price of tickets at the Senegambia bridge crossing, which links the country’s northern and southern coasts.
Nonetheless, the drivers expressed dissatisfaction with the obstruction posed by Senegalese vehicles, which hinders their work.
Ebrima Sambou, the proprietor of Soma-Farafenni garage, stated, “The garage is a significant one in the nation because it is traversed by a large number of international travelers en route to their final destination.”
“However, the drivers using the route complained of high cost of tickets at the Senegambia bridge which connects the North and South Bank of the country,” he reported.
Additionally, Mr. Sambou disclosed that chauffeurs who violate the garage’s policies and procedures are disciplined.
As a result, he urges the Gambiaan government, via the Ministry of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, to assist them in reducing the price of permits at the Senegambia bridge crossing, as “it is negatively impacting the drivers’ business.”
Taxi driver Omar Camara, speaking on behalf of his fellow motorists, urged the government of Gambia to investigate the situation because it “substantially affects” their daily earnings.
Mr. Camara emphasized that the majority of motorists throughout the nation moan about The Gambia’s transportation system.
“Although each garage faces unique difficulties, the primary obstacle faced by the Soma-Farafenni garage is the exorbitant price of tickets at the Senegambia bridge,” he explained, adding, “We earnestly pray that the Gambia government will heed our cries.”
