After being refused nomination papers, Sonko’s lawyers decided to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court based on the legal fact that the electoral agency responsible for nomination papers does not have authority to deny anyone.  The Constitutional Court is the only authority mandated to look into the eligibility or ineligibility of a candidate.

The Supreme Court was expected to deliver its verdict today Friday, October 6 2023 on whether the agency has the authority or not. The judge, against all legal odds, decided:

The agency does have the authority to reject Sonko nomination papers without any justification or legal basis on how he reached that conclusion.

His decision leaves everybody including the prosecutor in shock and disbelief. It is now official. Sonko will not be a presidential candidate based on Executive order, executed by the judiciary without any jurisprudence.
