GAMBIA: WARNING TO UNLICENSED AND SUICIDAL DRIVERS ON TRAFFIC OFFENSES & VIOLATIONS

Donate to Freedom Radio Today

The Gambia Government has observed with serious concern and dismay, the lack of respect for traffic regulations and the law, mainly by young and unlicensed motorists, causing dangerous and deadly accidents by spinning vehicles on the roads and public arenas.

This traffic menace is costing lives, obstructing vehicular activities and endangering the lives of motorists, pedestrians, and the public. Police have assessed vehicle drifting to be a critical public safety threat, which constitutes a violation of The Gambia’s Motor Traffic Act, with devastating impact on lives and properties.

Most worrisome and potentially ominous, is that the young people engaged in vehicle drifting do not usually possess valid driver’s licenses and therefore, pose significant risks to their families, the public and themselves.

Accordingly, The Gambia Government warns everyone particularly parents, vehicle owners and car rental operators, to desist from providing access to their vehicles to young and mostly, unlicensed and suicidal drivers. Failure to adhere to this warning constitutes a traffic offense and violation of the law and as such, any infractions will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The public is equally urged to support the Police to make the roads safer for all users as safety of our roads is everybody’s business.

Signed

Ebrima G. Sankareh

The Government Spokesperson & Presidential Diaspora Adviser
