Tangara arrived as a special envoy carrying a written message from Gambia’s President of Adama Barrow, addressed to King Mohammed VI.

Following his meeting with Bourita, Tangara told the press that he came as a messenger from President Barrow to “his brother and friend” King Mohammed VI.

The visit aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations and foster cooperation between the two countries.

During his recent visit to Morocco last month, Tangara engaged in discussions with Bourita, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and shared regional interests.

Speaking during a press conference following the meeting, Tangara reiterated his country’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. 

The Gambia FM said that his country stands firm in its position regarding the regional dispute, emphasizing a clear stance “without any ambiguity.”

Tangara commended Morocco for the solidarity displayed during the Al Haouz earthquake, acknowledging the country’s efforts, led by King Mohammed VI, in aiding affected communities and undertaking the reconstruction challenge.

Gambia’s consistent backing adds to a growing list of nations supporting Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara.

Morocco’s efforts received a boost with 14 European Union member states endorsing the autonomy plan. Notably, Spain’s endorsement in 2022 described Morocco’s initiative as the “most serious and credible solution” to the long-standing Western Sahara dispute.
