Information published on Monday in certain media suggests that President Macky Sall will not be in the presidential race in 2024. The head of state has given up seeking a third term, according to these sources.
He would have been deterred, it is said, by the scale of the deadly demonstrations in early June with nearly twenty deaths. And according to the same information, Macky Sall should make public his decision to give up the race for his succession at the turn of the publication of the conclusions of the national dialogue, on June 25.

According to sources established at the Palace, “this information is false”. “It’s pure political weather, not to say manipulation to create suspicion in the ranks of the President”, slice our interlocutors.

The latter to continue: “Macky Sall never gives in to pressure. He is the master of the game. He will decide when he deems it appropriate. The only time constraint to which he submits is the Republican calendar.

Clearly: the Head of State, we breathe, “depending on the deadlines set by the provisions of the Electoral Code and the temporality of his charge, will announce his position in relation to the presidential election of February 25, 2024”.

Between now and then, our sources assure us, “the President is focused more on Senegal’s march towards emergence than on purely political issues”.

“Everything in its time, hammer our interlocutors. After the violent protests, the state restored order and preserved institutions; he will continue to do so while working tirelessly for the well-being of Senegalese people.”
