Dakar is the scene of new scenes of violence between demonstrators and thugs on Monday. Clashes broke out in particular at Liberté 6 where two buses from the transport company Dakar Dem Dikk were set on fire.
At Liberté 6 Extension, the homes of ministers Serigne Mbaye Thiam and Matar Ba were also targeted by as yet unidentified thugs.

In the neighborhood where the former Minister of Sports lives, several of his neighbors were collateral victims of the fury of the rioters. Indeed, several vehicles belonging to local residents were reduced to ashes.

The hearse of the nearby mosque was also hit by a jet of Molotov cocktail.

Political tensions
These clashes occur in a context of persistent political tensions. Yesterday the police put an end to the “Freedom caravan” initiated by the opponent Ousmane Sonko. He was subsequently brought back by the security forces to his home in Keur Gorgui city. An impressive security device has been put in place around his home.
Opposition and civil society leaders who came to inquire about Mr. Sonko’s situation were dispersed by the police.
