SENEGAL: THE SPECTRE OF DIVISION HANGS OVER BENNO BOKK YAKAAR COALITION

In wake of the announcement of Macky Sall’s pick for February 2024 Presidential election, Senegal’s Minister of Agriculture, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, has thrown in the towel, signaling his readiness to run for President.

The Mayor of Linguére did not wait long to resign from his post in what has been expected to come as no surprise to many people.

The unveiling of the Benno Bokk Yakaar candidate may trigger a boomerang effect as potential presidential aspirants are set to break ranks and hit the ground running. A situation that does not augur well for the Senegalese leader in his quest to maintain his coalition’s preponderant influence.

Wal Fadjri TV’s Sandiogou Mbengue said Monday that the coalition is inexorably heading to an implosion. “It is a matter of time,” he added.

As the ruling coalition is yet to cast out the demon of division, a prominent leader in the Southern city of Kolda is holding a presser scheduled for today in Dakar, Senegal.

A good number of observers have made it clear that Mame Boye Diao is going to announce his candidacy…
