The trial of Michael Sang Correa, an alleged member of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh’s notorious “Junglers” death squad begins today in the United States. Correa, 45, is charged with torture and conspiracy to commit torture during his alleged involvement in the abuse of at least six individuals following a failed 2006 coup attempt in Gambia. This month-long trial is the first time a non-US citizen is being tried in a US federal court for acts of torture committed abroad under the Extraterritorial Torture Act. Do you believe international justice is served when trials like Correa’s happen outside the country? #DWAfrica #Gambia
