A Yundum police officer, who was recently implicated in a suspected drug and gold dust bust case, has absconded from the jurisdiction of The Gambia, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The officer has fled with some of the money that he and his colleagues had seized from the drug/gold dust suspects. The two other officers, who were part of the racketeering, have been charged and their case file has been referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers for an advice.

Police insiders said the suspected drug and gold dust case bust was uncovered by Gibril Jammeh, the Assistant Station Officer at the Yundum police station. It was Jammeh, who tipped off his S/O, about reports that he had received about some guys being suspected of drug and gold dust related activities in the area.

His boss, the  S/O, who is now a retiree, turned police contractor,  then instructed the three officers on duty to visit the suspected residence, where a search was conducted and 31,000 Euros was found with the suspects. Though, no drugs or gold dust were found in the suspects possession, our police sources have intimated.

The three Yundum officers then decided to share the seized 31,000 Euros among themselves. The deal later leaked. Two of the officers have confirmed each receiving 10,000 Euros from the seized foreign currency money. They said the remaining money was with their colleague, who is currently on the run.
